Investment Objective

The Artio Total Return Bond Fund ("Total Return Bond Fund" or "Fund") seeks to provide total return, which consists of two components: (1) changes in the market value of the Fund's portfolio securities (both realized and unrealized appreciation/depreciation) and (2) income received from its portfolio securities.

The Fund invests primarily in investment grade, intermediate term bonds denominated in currencies of a variety of countries throughout the world and multinational currencies, such as the Euro. Principal Strategies

The Total Return Bond Fund invests at least 80% of its assets in high quality, fixed-income securities including, bonds, debentures, notes and mortgage-backed securities. These securities may be issued by governments, supranational entities or corporations. Artio Global Management LLC (the "Adviser" or "Artio Global"—formerly Julius Baer Investment Management LLC) considers many factors when selecting investments, including:

  • Yield
  • Duration
  • Maturity
  • Classification
  • Quality

The Adviser also considers local economic and political environments; anticipated interest rate movements; strength and relative value of currencies; and supply and demand issues.

The Total Return Bond Fund will generally invest in bonds and other debt instruments from at least three different countries. In addition, less than 40% of the Total Return Bond Fund's total assets will be invested in any one country, other than the United States, and less than 25% of its total assets will be invested in securities issued by:

  • A foreign government, its agencies, instrumentalities, or political subdivisions
  • Supranational entities as a group

Normally, the Total Return Bond Fund will have duration of approximately four years. Duration is a measure of bond price volatility. It is generally defined as the approximate percentage change in price for a one percent change in yield. For instance, duration of four years indicates that the price of a bond will change approximately 4% for a 100 basis point change in yield.
