Investment Objective
The Artio Total Return Bond Fund ("Total Return Bond Fund" or "Fund") seeks to provide total return, which consists of two components: (1) changes in the market value of the Fund's portfolio securities (both realized and unrealized appreciation/depreciation) and (2) income received from its portfolio securities.
Strategy Overview
The Total Return Bond Fund has a distinct investment process, with a core US portfolio and the ability to opportunistically invest in foreign debt and currencies. It also has a willingness to differ from both competitors and the benchmark. The Fund invests primarily in investment grade, intermediate term bonds denominated in currencies of a variety of countries throughout the world and multinational currencies, such as the euro. The Fund seeks to maximize current income, while preserving principal, and can offer investors access to both domestic and international bonds via a single investment vehicle.

The performance quoted represents past performance, which does not guarantee future results. The investment return and principal value of an investment will fluctuate so that an investor's shares, when redeemed, may be worth more or less than their original cost. Current performance of the Fund may be higher or lower than the performance quoted.
Investment performance reflects fee waivers. In the absence of such waivers, total return would be reduced.

Principal Strategies
The Total Return Bond Fund invests at least 80% of its assets (including fixed income related futures, options, swaps and other instruments as well as borrowings for investment purposes) in investment grade bonds (i.e. fixed income securities) including debentures, notes and mortgage-and other backed securities. These securities may be issued or guaranteed by governments, supranational entities or corporations. Artio Global Management LLC (the "Adviser" or "Artio Global") considers many factors when selecting investments, including:
- Yield
- Duration
- Maturity
- Classification
- Quality
The Adviser also considers local economic and political environments; anticipated interest rate movements; strength and relative value of currencies; and supply and demand issues. Less than 40% of the Total Return Bond Fund's total assets will be invested in any one country, other than the United States, and less than 25% of its total assets will be invested in securities issued by:
- A foreign government, its agencies, instrumentalities, or political subdivisions
- Supranational entities as a group
Artio Global expects the Fund’s portfolio to have a duration of approximately plus or minus one year relative to its benchmark. Longer-term fixed income securities can have higher fluctuations in value. Duration is a measure of bond price volatility. It is generally defined as the approximate percentage change in price for a one percent change in yield. For instance, duration of four years indicates that the price of a bond will change approximately 4% for a 100 basis point change in yield.
The Fund may invest in derivatives for hedging and non-hedging purposes. The Fund typically uses derivatives as a substitute for taking a position in the underlying asset and/or as part of a strategy to reduce risk, such as interest rate risk, currency risk and price risk. Derivatives may include, but are not limited to futures contracts, forward contracts, non-deliverable forwards, options, swaps, interest rate warrants and structured investments.
Although the Fund typically invests in investment grade fixed income securities, it may continue to hold a security that has been downgraded to below investment grade. The Fund may also engage in active and frequent trading of portfolio securities to achieve its investment objective.
Risks
Please read the Fund's risks or consult the Fund's prospectus for more complete information on the special risks associated with investing in the Total Return Bond Fund, including, but not limited to: interest rate risk, maturity risk, liquidity risk, government securities risk, foreign currency transaction risk, derivatives risk, mortgage related or other asset back -backed securities risk, prepayment risk, credit risk, emerging markets risk, leveraging risk, political risk, redemption risk, custody/sub custody risk, regulatory risk, active trading risk and foreign investment risk.
